Transformational Advice To Start Your Morning From a Famous American Philosopher Who Helped Me Overcome Depression

Neuron #3: Create Worlds Before You

When you wake up each morning, what world do you decide to create?

In my rebellious teenage years, I took the blank canvas of each day and unconsciously created the same world as yesterday.

Stress. Depression. Substance abuse. Truancy. Anger. Girl drama. It was me against the world and the world against me.

Seemingly every sunrise, I would be jolted awake by an intense yelling match between my older brother and my parents.

At 14 years old, this sent me into a negative spiral.

I was genuinely unaware of my innate power to change my state of being, so I fell victim to my emotions and impulses.

The negative events in the world decided who I was each day.

Ralph Waldo Emerson says, “The soul looketh steadily forwards, creating a world before her, leaving worlds behind her.”

It wasn’t until nine years later that I started to understand how capably every human being can design a world before them.

So, I began to fiercely protect and architect my mornings.

No less than 5 seconds after I would wake up, I smiled as wide as I could. I set meaningful intentions for my day. I visualized success and enthusiasm. I used my incredible heart to generate the emotions NOW that I wanted to feel later. I spoke powerfully to myself. I power posed. I exercised. I meditated.

I practiced my future, not my past.

And this forever changed my experience of reality.

Now, you don't have to do everything I did. For most people, including the person I am today, that would be excessive.

So, before you design the practices that work for you, first start by raising your awareness.

When you wake up tomorrow, watch how quickly and effortlessly you start to re-create yesterday.

Then, remember, you are under no obligation to be who you were five minutes ago.

Leave the world of yesterday in the past.

Instead ask yourself, “What world will I create before me today?”

Then, walk steadily forward into your self-fulling prophecy.

Love, Connor
